Disaster Recovery, is part of a process called Business Continuity Planning which involves careful planning and development of procedures for the resumption of business operations after a disaster.

While Business Continuity Planning focuses on the larger picture, including facilities, workforce etc., Disaster Recovery Planning focuses primarily on regaining access to your Information Technololgy Systems' hardware, software and more importantly business data. This may include data backup to tape, with off-site storage, data and hardware duplication at multiple geographically separate data centers and many other similiar techniques.
